Berkshire Break Out Trip (B-BOT): Community Outreach & Service

“[We] got the opportunity to work with people who are in need right outside of our campus and the chance to see the people [our] work is directly impacting.”

Destination: Berkshire County, MA

Trip Organizers: Joyce Lee ’17 ([email protected]), Jenny Wheeler ’18 ([email protected]) & Michael Chen ’18 ([email protected])

The Experience

In this Community Outreach and Service Break Out Trip, participants did significant amounts of volunteer work at local organizations in the Berkshires in order to address different community needs. Projects included baking for Take & Eat, bread-baking for the community with Dining Services, organizing a science fair at Lanesborough Elementary School, and volunteering with the Berkshire Humane Society, Goodwill, and the Berkshire Food Project, among others. Through engagement with these local outreach programs, students became part of the greater goal of establishing lasting and ongoing relationships with community members all across the Berkshires. Along with the community service aspects of their time together, participants also had dinner and an evening activity together each night to facilitate group bonding.
