2016-17 Program Description

Now entering its 9th year at Mt. Greylock Regional School as one of the many programs of the Williams Center at Mt. Greylock, the Williams Afterschool Homework Fellows program is an official component of the college’s Center for Learning in Action. We look forward to having Williams students serve each year as homework coaches and mentors in our afterschool tutoring program.

Afterschool Homework Fellows assist students in grades 7-9 with homework across all subject areas, working one-on-one or in a small group setting. This opportunity gives Williams students a chance to gain valuable, hands-on tutoring and mentoring experience to those seeking help outside of class. Areas of academic interest may be specified, and organization and support is provided by a school-based coordinator.

Afterschool Homework Fellows leave the Williams campus at 2:00pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and return by 4:15pm. The expected time commitment for this paid position is one or more afternoons per week for a minimum of one semester. Fall Homework Fellows begin work in late September and spring Homework Fellows continue through early May; Fellows are not expected to work during Williams or Mt. Greylock vacations or during Winter Study. Monthly gatherings take place on campus, facilitated by a designated Fellows Captain for informal, peer discussion groups.
