Welcome to Lanesborough Elementary School. The school educates approximately 205 students in Grades pre-kindergarten through sixth and is located 16 miles south of Williamstown. The Center for Learning in Action creates academic collaborations between Lanesborough Elementary and Williams College.
This partnership, established in fall of 2015, supports field studies to the Williams campus and partners affiliated with Williams.
The 2021-2022 academic year saw the successful launch of two new programs at LES: Fellows and After School Tutoring. Both programs gained traction in the spring, after a very slow fall start. The greatest need in the classroom was support of 5 elementary students whose primary language is Spanish. Williams students were able to work 1-on-1 or 1-on-2 with the Spanish speaking students to assist with classroom work. BioEYES was brought back to both Grade 3 and 4 during Winter Study. Zoom Around the World continued in both virtual and in-person formats, allowing international Williams students a chance to share information about their home country and culture with the elementary students. Students in Grades K through 5 all participated in a field trip at Hopkins Forest. Eva Castagna and Regina Fink did a special program on Fridays in January building Fairy Houses with Grade 4 students. Gina Wagner, Grade 4 teacher, was able to tie the fairy house project into the current ELA unit with a theme of survival in extreme environments. The lessons learned during the startup of the new programs as well as a return to in-person activities will hopefully lead to new ways to collaborate and expand the partnership for the future.
In the Collaboration link, you will find information about the current programs and how to access opportunities. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.
