  • Time Commitment: Approximately 2 hours/week including transportation, but this is worked out with 5th/6th grade teachers
  • Where: Brayton and/or Greylock Elementary Schools in North Adams (3-4 miles away, 5 minute drive)
  • Work Hours: TBD between Williams College Student and the 1st, 5th or 6th grade teacher based on schedules
  • Contact: Amy Sosne
  • Common Application – This position is under the heading NAPS Classroom Support on the common application

This is a relatively new position that was created in the 2021-2022 academic year and given the success and current needs in the schools it will continue again in 2022-2023.  In speaking with current administrators in the schools, it is clear that given the huge staffing shortage in the education profession, the elementary schools would significantly benefit from extra classroom support in order to assist with small groups in multiple subjects.  It is clear that, although all of the grades could benefit from additional support, the youngest and the oldest in the elementary schools are particularly in need of extra support.  Students will be working with either 1st grade teachers or 5th/6th grade students and teachers in order to assist with small literacy and/or math groups.

This is a new position created in the 2021-2022 academic year and will continue in 2022-2023.  Students will be working with 6th-grade students and teachers at Brayton Elementary School to create a newsletter that follows school issues, events, and news. Time Commitment: 2-4 per week

If you are interested in using your creativity, writing skills, organizational skills, and are enthusiastic about helping the 6th grade class at Brayton to develop a first ever school newsletter, this position is for you.  College students work closely with the 6th grade advisor, Mary-Ellen Ropelewski, as part of an after-school group/club.  This is a pilot program and we are excited for interested college students to work on this and see how this program evolves!
