Grab ‘n’ Go (Green Room), Paresky Center

    • Williams students, faculty, staff & Williamstown community members gather to help WRAPS (Williams Recovery of All Perishable Surplus) package frozen meals for distribution to Mohawk Forest housing neighborhood.  Please RSVP to [email protected] by Friday, January 16th at 5:00pm to participate.

Monday, January 19th

11:30am – 3:00pm:  Make Your Mark! Open Participation Projects

Refreshments provided by the Center for Learning in Action

    • “MLK: Understanding the Dream” campus-wide anti-stereotyping book project. Williams community members are invited to complete the following sentence: “You judge me by ____, but I see myself as ____.” All written entries will be compiled in a bound volume.
    • Writing letters to currently incarcerated people. MLK wrote his famous “Letter from Birmingham Jail” over 50 years ago, and those of us living in the “free world” still have much to learn from those living behind bars.

 3:00-4:15pm:  “MLK: Understanding the Dream” Program

    • Video Premiere: “MLK: Understanding the Dream”
    • Open Mic: Williams students share their testimonials and personal reflections.
    • Speeches on Social Solidarity: Helping people see beyond stigmas. Williams students share excerpts from Dr. King’s and others’ speeches that encourage community solidarity and inspire us all to fight against stereotypes.
    • “Who Inspires You?”: Williams students share about figures who inspire them.

4:30-5:30pm: Moment of Silence & Readings

    • Moment of Silence with Chaplain Rick Spalding
    • “Who is Martin Luther King, Jr.?”: Readings by Williamstown Elementary School student poem and essay contest winners
    • Reading: “Houston needs a civilian review board – but Texas needs much more!” – Keith H. (“Malik”) Washington, who is currently incarcerated in Texas, has written about the abuse of people living in Texas prisons.

5:15-5:30pm: Student Group Performances 

5:30–8:00pm: 10th Annual MLK Community Dinner
